Suspension of Acceptance of mail items (containing goods) to the United States Effective August 26, 2025

Effective August 26, 2025, many postal services worldwide, including Chunghwa Post in Taiwan, temporarily suspended mail services for goods to the United States. This was due to a new U.S. government policy that eliminated the “$800 de minimis” exemption, which previously allowed low-value goods to enter the U.S. duty-free.

The policy change requires customs duties to be collected on all imported goods, regardless of value, before they enter the U.S. Since postal services were not equipped to collect these new duties from senders, they had to halt the services until a new system could be implemented. This suspension affects various types of packages and parcels, but not letters, documents, or some personal gifts below a certain value.

For sending items with goods, you will need to use international express services with companies like FedEx and DHL.
